Privacy notice
This notice explains what we do with the information you give us through this website. It is written to be read, not to be survived. If anything here is unclear, ask us and we will answer plainly.
Who we are
Affordable Solar Electricity, 240 Rivonia Road, Morningside, Gauteng. We are the responsible party for the information described here, in the sense the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) uses that term.
Reach us at info@affordablesolar.co.za, sunnysolarguy01@gmail.com or +27 84 366 1874. Either address reaches the same people.
Sunny, our website assistant
Sunny is our website assistant, not a person. It answers questions about solar, and helps you work out what you need before you speak to us.
Your conversation is not sent to us automatically. When you are ready to hand it over, Sunny offers you two buttons: WhatsApp, or a pre-filled email. Nothing reaches Affordable Solar Electricity until you press one of them, and what you send is yours to edit first.
If you do send it, it arrives at info@affordablesolar.co.za and sunnysolarguy01@gmail.com, or on WhatsApp, and we use it to answer you and to prepare a quotation or site assessment if you have asked for one. Typically that is your suburb or town, whether the enquiry is for a home or a business, roughly what you spend on electricity a month, and whatever else you have chosen to describe about your property.
What happens while you are chatting
To write its replies, Sunny sends your messages to Anthropic, the company that makes the AI model behind it. That happens as you type, for as long as the chat is open, and it is the only way the assistant can answer you at all.
- We do not keep a copy of the conversation on our side.
- Close the tab without pressing either button and, as far as we are concerned, the conversation is gone. We will not have seen it.
- Anthropic processes the messages on our behalf in order to generate the reply. They are not used to train their models.
Do not type sensitive details into the chat. Sunny will never ask for your identity number, bank or card details, or passwords, and we do not want them there. If a conversation starts heading that way, Sunny will stop and move you to a person.
You are welcome to use the phone number or the email address instead of the chat. Nothing on this site requires you to talk to Sunny.
Other information we collect
- What you send us directly. Email, WhatsApp messages and phone enquiries.
- Site assessment details. Photographs, roof and electrical details, and the addresses we need in order to design and install a system, register it with your municipality and issue a Certificate of Compliance.
This website does not run advertising trackers or third-party analytics profiling.
Why we use it, and for how long
We use your information to respond to your enquiry, quote, design and install the system, meet our legal obligations around electrical compliance and SSEG registration, and support you afterwards under warranty. We do not sell it, and we do not send marketing you did not ask for.
Records tied to an installation (quotations, the Certificate of Compliance, warranty and compliance paperwork) are kept for as long as the law and the warranty periods require. Enquiries that do not become jobs are kept only while they are still useful, and then deleted.
Who else sees it
Anthropic, as described above, for as long as you have the Sunny chat open. Otherwise only where the work requires it: your municipality for SSEG registration; a manufacturer where a warranty claim needs to be lodged; a bank or finance provider, but only if you have asked us to arrange finance and only with your agreement; an insurer or broker where the work is insurance-related and you or they have brought us in; and vetted contractors working with our own team on a site outside Gauteng, who remain under our engineering and quality responsibility.
Your rights
You may ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or object to how we are using it. Email info@affordablesolar.co.za or sunnysolarguy01@gmail.com and we will deal with it. If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.
Changes
If we change how any of this works, we change this page and update the date at the top.
